The Senior Spotlight winner for the month of April is Landon Jankus. Landon is the son of Steven and Marysa Jankus. During his high school career, Landon was involved in Baseball, Basketball, Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, Safe School Ambassadors, and the Academic Challenge Team (where he placed 2nd and 3rd in Regionals). He was also named ICE Academic All-Conference in Baseball, was a Student of the Month, was an Illinois State Scholar, and was on the High Honor Roll during his high school career. His future plans are to likely attend Olivet Nazarene University to pursue a degree in Sports Management. Here are a few thoughts from Landon’s teachers: Mr. Welsh says that Landon’s “upbeat personality, his curiosity, and his desire to take his education beyond just a grade has always impressed me.” Mrs. Meyr thinks that Landon is “a great young man! Landon has always been kind, caring, and thoughtful. He is a quiet leader. Landon is someone his peers can count on and look up to. He is respectful and polite, and I always enjoy seeing him. I’m so proud of his accomplishments and can’t wait to see where the future takes him.” Mrs. Leveille remembers Landon as “a freshman in Honors Biology. I remember that Landon was a hard worker, and put forth lots of effort into his work. He kept a positive attitude and got along well with others. Landon is friendly and is a good-hearted person. He participated in our Academic Challenge Team this year and won medals at the regional competition in Chemistry and Physics.” Ms. Mountain believes that Landon is “awesome to have in class. He brings a quiet but insightful presence to class and is always working to understand everything we do!” Mrs. Redwitz acknowledges that Landon might “be overlooked because he is so quiet, but he is an amazing young adult. He has a great sense of humor, is kind and intelligent. He is positive and this shows through in his personality and the things he does. He likes to joke around, but knows when it is time to be serious.” Mrs. Dennis says that Landon is “a talented, respectful, and polite student.” Mrs. Benoit is thankful that “every morning, Landon comes to class with a smile on his face. He eagerly participates in class and is always willing to help others understand difficult concepts. He loves conducting experiments and his classmates often look to Landon for guidance until they all achieve together.” Mrs. Lee appreciates that Landon is “a hardworking, kind, and respectful young man! He always comes in with a smile on his face and has a positive attitude!” Ms. Soto thinks that Landon is “intelligent, kind, and leads by example. He is a great role model for younger students! We will miss him in the halls of RCHS!” Mr. Graham appreciates that “as a new teacher at a new school teaching brand new classes, I had Landon as my student aide during my first month. Landon has a great personality, amazing character, and a one of a kind work ethic. Since that point, he continues to be an amazing leader in Athletic PE. He is a wonderful mentor for underclassmen and shows this through his actions and his words. The one downside to Landon is that he is a senior. I will miss him next school year!” Ms. Conley says that Landon is “a stellar young man! It has been great to see him go from a small and hyper freshman to a much taller and more laidback senior! I had the luxury of substitute teaching his freshmen PE class, and we played kickball with 4 or 5 students due to Covid. It was the strangest game of kickball I have ever seen, but it was the most fun. He is a great kid with a kind heart and a killer sense of humor!” Mr. Wolf believes that Landon is “not only a great student here at RCHS, he is a terrific young man. A quiet soul who always does what is asked and more. I have immensely enjoyed having him in my classes, and I know that the other teachers feel the same way.” Mrs. Rankin acknowledges that Landon is “a motivated, dedicated student and one of the nicest individuals you could ever meet!” As a final thought, Landon’s advice to younger students is, “Enjoy every moment and create lasting memories because in the blink of an eye you’re walking across the stage at graduation.” On behalf of the teachers and staff at RCHS, we would like to congratulate Landon Jankus as the April winner of the Senior Spotlight.
